The Tennessee-based corporation that owns Barstow Community Hospital declared bankruptcy soon after COVID-19 arrived in the U.S. last year helping to keep the lights on by obtaining a new loan from financiers in New York and the Cayman Islands.
Now, the city’s only hospital has a new chief executive, whose prior stints at financially troubled medical centers in rural communities indicate potential plans to cut costs and shore up cash.
Barstow Community Hospital named Brian Cotter a California native “with more than 30 years in healthcare and teaching positions,” according to a hospital press release as its CEO on June 21, ending roughly eight months of leadership for interim chief Suzanne Richards.
