LANSING, Mich., (WPBN/WGTU) — Nearly 72,000 Michiganders will have more than $74 million in medical debt erased under a new round of relief announced by Gov. Gretchen Whitmer.
The debt forgiveness will benefit 71,871 residents through a partnership between the State of Michigan and the nonprofit Undue Medical Debt. Recipients will begin receiving notification letters this week.
The latest round follows a previous effort announced in 2025 that erased more than $144 million in medical debt. Combined, the state has now eliminated more than $200 million in medical debt for more than 280,000 Michiganders.
