According to new figures from StepChange Scotland, the average debt among people seeking help from the charity has risen to more than £20,000—a 10% increase rise year-on-year.
The figures come from StepChange Scotland’s latest annual report, Scotland in the Red.
This report found that two-thirds of clients are in arrears on their household bills, owing an average of £5470—a figure that has climbed by 85% since 2021.
