Queensland’s Liberal National government has slashed debt as it prepares for the 2032 Brisbane Games, despite spending big on crime and health.
Part of the cost savings will come from capping non-frontline senior public service numbers at 832 until 2029, saving about $18 million.
Overall, debt expectations have been cut by $27 billion in the first LNP budget since 2014 after its October 2024 election success ended Labor’s nine-year reign.
“It delivers for the Queensland people and keeps faith with their election of a new government,” Treasurer David Janetzki told parliament.
